Texas Star chart presentation

In this presentation I would like to give you insight into the Texas Star Chart. I would like to provide knowledge of how this tool works and why this tool is being used across the state of Texas in the technology sector of education.

Reflection on the National Educational Technology Draft Plan

After reading over the NETDP- (aka National Educational Technology draft plan) I realized exactly how in depth the virtual learning of our classroom needs to be in order to reach the learners of tomorrow. We need to assess our classrooms and prepare for the future. I think that in my district we are just trying to maintain what we have and keep that going. This is not a bad thing, but if we are going to provide these children with quality education for the next generation we need to take a step in that generation and realize what their world encumbers. I have a teaching assignment next year that encompasses what the department of education was speaking of when they said to make classrooms more virtual. I will be facilitating an online dual credit computer science course. I am so excited to be the first teacher in my district to off this course and to take a step in that next generation of technology. I think it will encourage more online learning at our district. I hope so! Because according to the NETDP- we are going to have to offer these types of programs to keep up with the technology trends. Connected teaching was mentioned quite often in the NETDP- in the teaching section of the plan it suggested that we as educators close the gap so that we can improve instructional practices and improve learner outcomes. The more effective a teacher is the better the learner outcome. Some teachers do not understand how effective the use of technology can be until they use it once and see the difference. Technology is the educational tool that will drive us into that generation of learners, if we take the wheel as the administrators.

REFLECTION OF PROGRESS REPORT ON THE LONG RANGE PLAN FOR TECH, 2006-2020
Our goal as educators must be to prepare young
students to work and thrive in the 21st
Century and to effectively interact in a
global marketplace. These goals must
include educating all stakeholders to
support a positive learning environment
that embraces success. In order to do this properly we must first have the tools and motivation to provide students with the proper education. We are in a new age where these students today thrive on technology. I am always kidding around in my classroom saying that the students were born with laptops in their hands. Basically they were. As soon as they could they were probably intervened in life with so sort of technology. This then becomes the basis of their education. They can take classes and communicate with others virtually. It is what the new digital learners do. It is who they are. I as a digital immigrant and educator must learn how to provide them with new insights on technlolgy. As I read the report on long range technology, I was amazed to see all the new programs across Texas that was taking place. I like the on in Highland Park where they arranged for the entire students grade 6-12 to have apple computers and for the staff also. Their outlook on this project was that it gave students and faculty the opportunity to communicate and also another avenue for parents to see what their children were learning. I was intrigued at the number of school projects that were going to 1:1 ratio for student and laptops. I came across this idea several years ago at a national tech conference in Austin, TX. I think it is awesome and should be done in order to reach our kids virtually.

Texas Star Chart blog #1
Area=Teaching & learning
Description as it relates to my campus:
My campus is on the very crust of technology usage. We are trying to attempt to dive into the technology arena and get our feet wet. I have been using some forms of technology in my classroom for years just because i love technology. I recently used new software with the students they loved it and have grown to expect it when we have a lecture in my classroom. They learn very will when captivated by technology. I use software by the name of Visionware and use this tool to teach new software programs with. The students love it. Some of them are so amazed by it that they want to know exactly how it works and how I as the administrator of the software am working the software. It is truly a great software and well worth the budget money used to purchase the program. The teaching and learning section of the Star Chart focuses on how technology can impact student achievement by providing necessary tools and resources for teachers, administrators, librarians and students. The data shows that 2,014 campuses or26% of all campuses are at the highest levels on the chart. That translates to1,947 campuses or 25% of all campuses are at the Advanced Tech level and 69 campuses or 0.9% of all campuses are at the Target Tech level. In 2006-2007, those numbers were 1,561 campuses at Advanced Tech and 62 campuses at Target Tech.

My recommendations for improvement in this area include: being able to access knowledge through digital learning both the teacher and the student.
